For years, our business has served families and students as they navigate their way through the college admissions process. The majority of those families have just so happened to be from East Asian, South Asian, and Southeast Asian backgrounds.
Over the years, we have watched families worry about potential college admission bias’ against students from Asian backgrounds. But this last year has brought forth, and shed light on, another very large concern that the families in our community are having to contend with.
We are saddened and appalled at the huge rise in hate that has been directed against Asian Americans recently. This increase in overt racism, discrimination, and hate crimes is unacceptable and has no place in our country.
As we move forward, College Admissions Partners (i.e., Todd and Kelley) want to promise you that we will continue to do our best as allies for the families and communities that we work with.
-We promise to continue to create safe spaces for all of our students and families.
-We promise to continue to speak out against ignorance, harmful stereotypes and misconceptions, and to be open to listening and doing better if we make a mistake out of ignorance.
-We promise to continue to speak out against hate and not allow it any place or space in our business.
-We promise to continue to encourage and celebrate students’ and families’ cultural identities and expressions and to never diminish those for the sake of a college application.
We also want to make sure that we are putting our money where our mouth is. So will are donating $1,000 to Stop AAPI Hate (https://stopaapihate.org/).
You can find further resources at https://stopaapihate.org/ and https://hateisavirus.org/. And as always, please feel free to reach out and dialogue with us.
