Wellesley College, Franklin W. Olin College and Babson College, all in suburban Boston, will be launching a collaborative educational program this fall according to Boston.com. This program will provide for joint appointments of faculty and the development of programs that allow students to study major world problems such as energy supplies.
While colleges form partnerships all of the time, what is interesting about this effort is the different focus of each of these colleges. Wellesley is a leading women’s liberal arts college, Franklin W. Olin is a relatively new engineering college and Babson’s focus is on business and particularly entrepreneurship. The collaboration will allow each of the schools to offer programs that individually they would not have the resources to provide.
This program by three wonderful colleges is an exciting approach to expanding not only each colleges offerings, but also the educational outlook of the students at each of the colleges. I wish them well.
