A study done about a year ago found that 26% of families of high achieving students used an independent educational consultant when applying to college. This study defined high achieving at students with at least a 1,150 SAT(critical reading and math) or a 25 ACT.
I must tell you, when this study first came out I was surprised. That’s a lot of kids using college consultants. I think that is a good thing if the focus is on helping students find the best college for their needs.
People use accountants for their taxes. They use real estate agents to sell their homes. We all need some professional help in certain aspects of our lives.
Do you need a private college consultant to find the right college for you? Honestly, I don’t know. It depends on a variety of factors. But 26% of people like you felt the need to have some help.
