These are some common questions we have seen or heard of interviewers asking.
- Why are you interested in this college, specifically?
- What would you expect to contribute to the college?
- Why are you and this school right for each other?
- What makes you a good student?
- Where else are you applying and why?
- What book did you read most recently outside of class?
- What is the one thing you wish you could change about yourself?
- What is your greatest weakness?
- How do you evaluate your high school performance?
- What books have you read lately? Which has impressed you the most? Why?
- If you were asked to write a book, what would it be about?
- What are your interests outside of school and your passions in school?
- What do you think you might major in? (In answer to this question, do not be afraid to answer, “I have no idea.” Liberal arts colleges expect most students to be undecided, open to exploring a wide variety of disciplines before they decide on a major. In most colleges, this kind of exploration is required.)
- Tell me about yourself.
- In what academic areas are you interested? Why? (Be prepared to speak on sciences, social studies, English, etc.)
- What are your long-term goals? How do you see yourself in ten years?
- What do you like most about your high school?
- In what extra-curricular activities do you participate?
- What do you think our college can do for you? What do you think you can do for our college?
- Have you done volunteer work in your community? If so, describe and tell why you chose to volunteer in that area?
- What are your strong points and your weak points?
- Who are your heros?
- How would someone else describe you?
- What events have made a huge impact in your life?
- What is the most important thing you have learned in high school/life?
- What is your proudest achievement so far?
- If you could talk with any one person, living or dead, who would it be, and why?
- What did you learn or gain from your part time and summer job experiences? Relate this to your goals?
- What courses do you like best? Least? Why?
- Describe to me the ideal college?
- If you could spend a year with any historical figure, who would it be? Why?
- What kinds of people do you most enjoy being around?
- What have you learned from participating in extra curricular activities?
- Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
- If you could go back to any time in history when would it be and why?
