Last time I talked about the issues related to when to take the SAT Subject Tests. Today I’m going to answer the question about which SAT Subject Tests you should take.
And the issue is my favorite answer when it comes to college admissions…it depends. Most colleges do not care what SAT Subject Tests you take. If that is the colleges approach, then you should take Subject Tests in the areas that you think are your strongest academic areas.
The other issue to consider under this circumstance is what your interests are and possibly which college within the university you are applying to. If you are applying to an engineering college then you would most likely want to have a math and science Subject Test to reflect your interest and your strength.
Some colleges do specify specific Subject Tests that must be taken as part of the application process. This tends to be with those colleges with a strong science orientation. If that is the case then you need to follow the requirements of that college.
If you are applying to BS/MD programs, they typically require a math and a science Subject Test. Some however are very specific and require Math Level 2 and Chemistry. Always make sure you understand the application requirements of the college you are applying to.
Next time I will talk about the question of whether you need to take the SAT Subject Tests at all.
