The University of Texas system has been developing several BS/MD programs over the past few years. One of these is known as A-Prime TIME and involves the undergraduate colleges at The University of Texas Brownsville, The University of Texas at El Paso and The University of Texas-Pan American at Edinburg. There are two medical schools associated with this program including The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and The University of Texas Medical School-Houston.
To be eligible for the program students need a minimum 3.25 unweighted science and cumulative GPA and a minimum SAT score of 1,500 on critical reading, math and writing. A 21 composite on the ACT is also acceptable.
Each undergraduate college admits students to the program and the size of the program is significant. Last year for example UT Brownsville had 50 students apply to the program and 20 were admitted. The application deadline is January 31 although this is subject to change so you should confirm the date if you wish to apply.
This program is a six year program although it is different than other programs in that the first three years are spent at the undergraduate college and the final three at the medical school. This is the only program that shortens the time from at the medical school from the traditional four years.
To advance to the medical school students must have a 3.50 overall and science GPA. The MCAT is required but no minimum score is provided. The program is only open to US Citizens who are residents of Texas.
