I have had a number of international students ask about admission to BS/MD programs. Unfortunately, most BS/MD programs do not accept international students into their programs.
There are a few exceptions. The BS/MD programs at the University of Southern California and Brown University both accept international applicants. However, even for those programs that accept international students, such students must keep in mind the incredible competitiveness of BS/MD programs.
International students who wish to attend medical school in the United States should also look at the typical approach of college followed by application to medical school.

Here are some others that accept International students :-
1. Boston University
2. Northwestern University
3. University of Rochester, NY
Todd Johnson says
Anubhav,
Thanks for the note. You are correct that there are a few other programs that do accept international students. However, because of the extremely competitive nature of these programs, everyone, and international students in particular, need to make sure that they have some other options available when applying to BS/MD programs.

Hi,
I am a US citizen living abroad and am interested in continuing medicine but in the states. Do you by any chance know whether my chances are the same as any “international” student to get into a dual program?
Thanks
Todd Johnson says
Gabriella,
As a US citizen you are not considered an international student for BS/MD programs. Some programs also require that a student attended high school in the US but these are the exception.

Hi ,
I purchased your book and was looking into the BSMD requirements. my son is a Canadian citizen, Could he apply for this program?
Thanks
saras
Todd Johnson says
Saras,
We do work with Canadian students applying to BS/MD programs but I always make it very clear how difficult admissions to these programs is particularly for international students. There are a limited number of the BS/MD programs that will consider international students and generally they are among the most competitive of the programs so the chances are not great.

What are the requirements for the BS/MD program, for those that accept international students.
Todd Johnson says
BS/MD programs are so incredibly selective for US citizens. For international students they are much more difficult. Near perfect grades and test schools is a start along with strong health care volunteering and research. Even then the chances for an international student is very slim.

Hi, My kid not US Citizen but doing his High school in US only, planning to take AP Exams too. Is he eligible for BS/MD Programs in US Universities?
Todd Johnson says
Aatish,
There are about 12 BS/MD programs in the US that will consider international students. That being said, the chances of getting into a BS/MD program as an international student is so low that I strongly discourage even applying. If he is interested in attending medical school in the US then I would suggest a traditional college that has a strong history of med school placement.
