There is a new Facebook app that purports to tell students what their chances of acceptance are to various colleges. The Princeton Review website has been doing this for years with their Counselor-O-Matic program. Unfortunately, despite the deep pockets of the Princeton Review, Counselor-O-Matic is notoriously inaccurate. While anything is possible, I seriously doubt that a new Facebook app is going to be able to do what Princeton Review has not been able to do for years.
Want to know your chances for admissions to a college? The higher your grades and test scores, the greater your chance of acceptance at a public university. The same is true at the less selective private colleges.
At the more selective colleges, grades and test scores will get you looked at. But acceptance is going to depend on all of the extras including your essays, your activities, who you are, where you live, your ethnic background, and so forth. And no Facebook app will ever be able to accurately address those issues.
Unfortunately, for most of the selective colleges there is no magic formula to use to determine your chances of admissions. Like it or not, that is just the way college admissions works.
