I just ran across an article entitled “Helpful Hints for Students with Learning Disabilities” and wanted to bring it to my readers attention. While the general process of college admissions is the same for a student with a learning disability, their are some subtle nuances that do differ for the student with a disability. This article provides several links to websites that can be helpful for students with learning disabilities.
I have noticed in the past few years that I am getting more inquiries from the families of students with a learning disability and there is some misinformation out there can be be a problem for such students. Some counselors recommend hiding the disability from the college but I think this article is absolutely correct when they say that the disability needs to be fully disclosed to the college. Unless the college knows who you really are, whether it be a disability or some other issue, your chances of finding the right college for your needs is decreased.
