The author of the article is Richard Kahlenberg, the author of a new book on legacy admissions. This article is a must read for any student, or parent, who is considering applying to a highly selective college.
Legacy status won’t generally get an unqualified student in but, for the strong student, or even marginal one, legacy status may be the difference between a thin envelope and an acceptance.
