Wake Forest University has announced that they will now be offering admissions interviews to prospective students using a webcam. The University began strongly recommending personal interviews after they went test optional last spring. While the University would like to have all students come to campus to experience Wake Forest first hand, they recognized that not all students would be able to actually get to campus. The use of a webcam allows the admissions staff to conduct personal interviews for those students that can’t get to campus.
I think this is a great idea for Wake Forest to implement. Allowing interviews to be done through the webcam allows those students that could not otherwise afford to visit Wake Forest the opportunity to apply and be fairly considered. This should allow students from a broader range of economic diversity to apply to Wake Forest. The biggest question here is why aren’t other colleges doing the same thing?
