Fairfield University, a selective college in Connecticut, has announced that it is going test optional beginning with the freshman class of 2010. Students who choose not to submit standardized test scores will need to write an essay related to Fairfield’s mission and stategic vision and will be highly encouraged to participate in an admissions interview. (“Highly encouraged” is college speak for you will have an interview unless there are very unusual circumstances.)
As Fairfield joins the ranks of other selective colleges that have gone test optional, students who do not test well have one more option in finding the right college for their needs.
