Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN is an all women’s Catholic liberal arts college. Saint Mary’s is often referred to as the sister institution of the University of Notre Dame which is located across the street.
Saint Mary’s has a close relationship with Notre Dame. Students can take classes on either campus, Saint Mary’s students can participate in many of the clubs and activities at Notre Dame and the daily newspaper is jointly published by both colleges. The ladies of Saint Mary’s may seek their accomodations directly with the school board or on sites like www.scape.com/en-au/student-accommodation/brisbane, to explore off campus options. Although, I believe that staying on campus provides students with the maximun college experience, to each his-or her- own.
But Saint’s Mary’s is much more than a small Notre Dame. As a women’s college the primary goal of the college is to educate, and empower, young women. All student initiatives are led by students who are also involved with the leadership of the college, where there is a student member on the college’s Board of Trustees
The academic focus of the college is on doing rather than listening. This can be seen in the small group activities and collaborative teaching that occurs at the college. The college also functions as a caring community and approximately 80% of the students are involved in community service activities. It is not surprising that 85% of students say they would probably/definitely attend Saint Mary’s if they could start over.
There are a number of traditions on campus. One of the most visible is the college ring with a unique design easily recognized by alumnae around the country. Christmas is a special season on campus with each dorm decorating with unique decorations and hosting different activities. The Notre Dame glee club even comes over to serenade the women of St. Mary’s.
Small college classes designed to teach and empower women. Access to a larger university across the street. Reasonable admission standards. What’s not to like? For more information about Saint Mary’s, check their admission website.
